Together with the ECTB we embarked in June 2009 on the implementation of a Mentorship Programme for 30 Tourism SMMEs in the Eastern Cape. The programme is focused on SMMEs of three centres in the province; Mthatha, East London and Port Elizabeth. The mentors have been selected from the province on the basis of previous experience in the sector and the ability to provide support on specific topics. The programme is implemented with support of TEP and will run until July 2010. The Mentorship programme incorporates both one-on-one support sessions between mentor and mentee and SMME group session in order to support the SMMEs with Market Access and Product Development. Every mentor-mentee relationship is guided by a specific Business Growth plan with clear monthly deliverables on the basis of which the parties report back to the funding partners.

Since October 2008 Proserv South Africa is the skills development partner for TEP and responsible for the project management and quality assurance of all training activities organized in cooperation with TEP. The project is active in all provinces and involves approximately 4000 Tourism SMMEs on an annual basis. The training needs for SMMEs are determined based on a detailed skills analysis conducted on an annual basis. Presently the programme provides SA Host Courses, 8 different types of Tourism Toolkit Workshops,  an 8 day Business Skills Programme and a Mentorship Programme. In order to implement the programme nationwide Proserv has selected and trained a group of 50 independent facilitators. Quality Assurance of training delivery, facilitators and venues is conducted by Proserv Consultants.

Besides the management of training, Proserv is one of the provincial partners of TEP. Through our offices in Polokwane we are responsible for the identification and screening of SMMES in Limpopo province. Proserv furthermore acts as the TEP representative in the province with a mandate to support SMMEs both in product development and market access activities.
